Show your dad a new side of Pullman

This weekend is Dad's Weekend on the WSU campus. If you're like me, your dad has been to Pullman numerous times and, looking for new ways to entertain your dad while he's here can be challenging. So, to help you out here is a list of just some of the things WSU has to offer students and their dads this weekend:

Friday night, The School of Hospitality and Business Management is hosting the first annual Brewfest at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Events Center. Due to popular demand, there will be two sessions to choose from 5-7 or 8-10 p.m.. Brewfest features a wide selection of Northwest microbrews, hors d'oeuvers, live music by the student jazz band Orjazzmic and a silent auction. For your convenience, the event will run shuttle services through the evening to and from the event. Tickets are just $30 and are available at www.brewfest.wsu.edu.

Friday night also features a fun and entertaining annual event hosted by The Pacific Islander Club: the 6th Annual Dad's Weekend Luau Cultural Exhibition. The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. in Gladish Community Center and features live music and performance, an all-you-can-eat buffet and dancing. If you've never attending this event, I highly recommend it; the food is amazing and the dancing is incredible! Tickets are $15 and are available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on the campus mall or by phone at 509-432-3293.

Also on Friday night, the National Student Advertising Competition Team is holding an auction at 5:30 p.m.. The event, held in School of Communication Addition (CADD) lobby, will feature a large array of great items you and your dad will be dying to own including: a basketball autographed by Coach Tony Bennett’s NCAA Tournament team, travel packages, hotel nights and sports memorabilia. Admission to the auction is a mere $5. For your convenience, tickets will be sold at the door.

Saturday night, The Doobie Brothers will be "Taking it to the Streets" in Pullman. Well, Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum actually, but it's sure to be a great show. The performance begins at 8:30 p.m., and will feature blues inspired classic rock that both you and your dad will enjoy. Tickets are affordable at $38.50 and can be purchased at Beasley Coliseum or through TicketsWest at www.ticketswest.com or by calling 1-800-325-SEAT.

And, of course there are sports! Both the WSU football team and men's basketball team are playing this weekend. The basketball team will play Eastern Washington in their home opener Friday and the football team welcomes Stanford to Martin Stadium on Saturday. So, make sure to contact 1-800-go-cougs to get your tickets and bring your dad out to support the Cougs!

Have a great weekend!
